FIFO numbers are assigned to claims as they are received by the Verus claims processing application and are representative of each claim's placement in the FIFO processing queue relative to all other submissions. The ordering of the numbers themselves is based upon each claim's exigency circumstances as well as when the claim became known, either through a lawsuit in the tort system or a filing with the Trust.
Claims retain their FIFO numbers when they are either deferred or reviewed and found to possess deficiencies, but are taken out of the FIFO processing queue until such a time as they are either re-opened or curative documentation is submitted. When being returned to the FIFO processing queue, a claim once again takes its place in line relative to all other claims based on its assigned FIFO number.
